Kate Wyatt's August 7th Update
Buenos Dias Muchachos!Hola from Belize. I finally have my email all straightened out, and now can keep in touch with everyone more easily. I am settling into my new life here in Belize and getting used to the heat. It was 107 yesterday, and today it has rained off and on a few times. In the rainy season, you can watch storms over the fields of sugar-cane and not once get wet yourself. When it rains here, no one comes to church, we had about seven in attendance last week, and no one comes to school, either. I may not have any snow days in my near future, but I bet I have some rain days.
Everyone that I have met in my village of San Narciso is very excited to have another Gringa living here. They are particularly glad to have another teacher for the Concepcion Elementary school. Because of the desperate need of the high school, the teams that have come to Belize this summer have only been working to get it ready for el primero de Septiembre, which is when school starts. My school is yet to be completed with about four rooms on the top floor still unfinished. Please don't worry. I will have a key to the teacher's outhouse which has a cushioned seat and plenty of room to move about. I will try to get some pictures of my school, the house where I live, and my church on the web page at St. Matt's so you can check those out.
When school starts, I will hopefully be teaching the Beginner's class: four-year-olds. I'm not exactly sure which class I will teach and it is making me a little nervous, but I am trusting the Lord to place me where I will flourish and my students will soar. Because the four-year-olds come to school with virtually no English vocabulary, it will be my job to teach them how to speak English. I definitely have my work cut out for me, but I am also looking forward to the challenge.
The next two weeks will be filled with sorting through books, dividing school supplies for the three schools, preparing myself and my classroom for the coming school year, and prayer, prayer, prayer.

Please join me in praying for the following:
- The San Narciso church as it struggles to keep members in its congregation every Sunday. And for Alvero Pott who is working through Covenant Seminary and is learning to preach. Alvero is filling in for the pastor who is in the States right now. He also does a very good job of translating for me!
- That my new students will be willing to work hard through this year to learn English and that their families will support me and speak English at home. It will be easier for their children to learn.
- The West End Presbyterian Church work team that was here this week to work on the high school. They were forced to end their mission early due to some kind of virus that affected over half their team and another team from Mississippi. Pray that health returns to those who were affected by the virus, and also pray that they feel a sense that God worked through them this week.
- Pray especially for Lauren from West End who was flown via Med-Vac back to the US a few nights ago and is in the ICU in an area Richmond hospital. She is in critical condition but is now able to recognize people and move her hands. The doctors do not know what it is that has made her so ill, but I will keep you updated.
- That Carla, Nicole, and I can find a way to stay in this very small, very hot house in this beautiful, safe, caring community of San Narciso instead of moving to Corozal Town where it is not exactly the safest place for three American women to live by themselves.
- For Nicole Fennig who is in the States praying about and trying to raise support to come back to Belize for another year of teaching.
Now that you know what is going on the my part of the world, let me know what is going on in yours. Before she left Belize on Saturday, a dear friend reminded me that if I get lonely all I have to do is look up to the moon because even though we are all in different countries, we all see the same moon. God is that BIG.

*if you dial 10-10-220 before my phone number it will only cost you $.39 per minute. The best times to call are after church on Sundays and any weeknight between 8 and 11 your time. It is really expensive for me to call the States, about $1.40 per minute, so I won't be making too many calls to the States.I love you all and wish you the best in whatever God throws your way!
